HISTORY INDESIGNED INCOLOR ANDNEW YORKFORM

Apparatta is rooted in a moment of accelerated imagination: the turn of the twentieth century, when industry and art became spectacle. Electricity expanded throughout cities, steel reshaped skylines, and a new and modern aesthetic gripped the art and design world.

Today, our greatest advancements are microscopic, living inside chips, fiber optics, and algorithms. Their invisibility is the signifier of their success. Apparatta seeks the childlike wonder of a past century, when technological innovations commanded real presence, offering the curious observer a glimpse into their inner workings.

Consider the great World’s Fairs. These were immersive displays of human advancement. X-rays were unveiled theatrically and elevators were demonstrated to eager crowds. Nations presented machines as if they were performers on a stage. Technology and art were in constant dialogue, and advances in engineering were showcased alongside painting, decorative arts, and architecture. The geometry of industrial advancement was a shared language, appearing in bridges, posters, machines, stage costumes, and jewelry.

COLOR IS A
CREATIVE
LANGUAGE

Diamonds exist alongside vibrant gems to create optical effects and shifting chromatic compositions. We are drawn as much to unusual shades of garnet, tourmaline, and tsavorite as to sapphires and diamonds, designing with an uninhibited approach to color rather than relying on the classic gemstones historically associated with fine jewelry. The result is a palette defined by visual intention: stones chosen not for what they are, but for what they can do.

Behind that palette is a cutting tradition that spans centuries. Our stones are cut by a multi-generational family cutting house in Jaipur, working with artisans who can trace their lineage back six to seven generations. Their work combines traditional hand craftsmanship with modern precision cutting methods influenced by master Sri Lankan sapphire cutters. Our cutters, who work exclusively with top-quality rough material, select first for crystal structure and clarity. They then undergo a second round of refinement specifically calibrated to our color requirements. Of every ten stones that make it through initial selection, only one or two are ultimately chosen for Apparatta. The result is a body of stones chosen with painterly precision, where color is treated as a material for composition rather than decoration.
